Game Rewards Brand Evangelists With Social Media Influence

In our research for PSFK’s Future Of Gaming report, the PSFK consulting team noticed a growing tendency towards games being used To Spread The Word. One example of this trend is Shopularity – a web-based platform for brand-sponsored contests in which entrants compete to receive votes and win free high-end products like iPads, clothing, and video cameras. Users begin by logging in with their Facebook or Twitter account and can elect to enter a contest by simply clicking ‘I Want This!’ on a product or promotional image. Individuals are challenged to compete for votes by broadcasting news of the contest/product before the contest time expires; in effect, turning entrants into brand evangelists as individuals compete for free products.
