Pay For Online Items By Tapping Your Phone Near A Laptop

MasterCard is currently working on a technology that would allow users to pay for online purchases by simply tapping a MasterCard-powered PayPass card or smartphone by their laptop. The technology utilizes near-field communication (NFC) which allows two devices to transfer information wirelessly and seamlessly.

The credit card company initially stated that the feature will be first implemented on the new range of Intel Ultrabooks. Ultrabook is an Intel trademark and is basically thinner and lighter than a conventional laptop, making it more portable.

Ed McLaughlin, head of emerging payments for MasterCard, commented that the tap-to-pay feature can benefit online customers as it’s a more convenient and secure way to checkout.
